Wee Play is moving from Bridgewater after 20 years in the community!

Wee Play is a parent/child music and play program for toddlers that has been serving the families of Bridgewater and the surrounding areas for the past two decades from their location at the Green Knoll Firehouse.

“It’s been great being here and meeting so many wonderful Bridgewater families. I’m thankful to have had a small part in their children’s lives and will always remember them with great fondness“ says Wee Play owner Holli Pecora.  Unfortunately, Wee Play has been affected by the economy like everyone else.  Low enrollment and rising rental fees have forced them to move out.

“I really should have closed a few years ago, but I knew if that happened, there would be nothing else available for children in this age group”.  During their time at Wee Play, children are singing, playing, and having fun at the same time they’re learning to share, take turns and respect the personal space of the other children around them.  “Like any other learning experience, children need to be taught the right way to play with their new friends, and I think the best teacher for that is still their parent”  responds  Holli.   Many experts agree learning these skills early on makes the child’s transition to nursery school that much easier.

And it’s not just the social skills. Children with physical delays are able to practice jumping, running and climbing in a safe padded environment, a few even come with their physical therapists.   “We have equipment here that the average parent would not have access to otherwise.  When I see a child master something for the first time, I think I feel as proud of them as their parent does.  It broke my heart to think these kids wouldn’t have that anymore.”

Luckily, a last minute solution is found!  “I’m very happy to report we won’t have to close just yet. We’ll be teaming up with the First Baptist Preschool in Somerville”, Holli tells us.  “I’m very grateful to them for opening up their space to us and relieved to be able to keep the program going for a little while longer.”

The Preschool is going to allow Wee Play to use their large gym for their classes and on alternate days, the preschool children will have access to all of Wee Play’s equipment for their indoor play time.   “I’m happy our members will still have a place to come back to in September and I think the preschool children who start school at First Baptist are going to be thrilled to find out their school has the ultimate indoor playground!”
